Mediterranean pine

Highlight in the garden bed

Mediterranean pine bark in our premium decorative quality really highlights any garden as a versatile surface cover and also serves as a sustainable fertiliser.

Origin

Our Mediterranean pine bark consists of 100% Pinus Maritima (Pinus Pinaster, Pinus Pinea) and grows in the Mediterranean region. Long-standing relationships with our suppliers in Southern Europe ensure the permanent good quality.

Our Mediterranean pine bark is directly delivered from Portugal. In order to minimise the risk of introducing or spreading harmful organisms, certain plants are subject to special regulations. Thus, each load of bark must have been heated to above 65° C for a period of at least 30 minutes before export to guarantee absence from nematodes.

Characteristics

HIGH-GRADE QIALITY
Mediterranean pine bark is processed into different fractions and its fibre and bast parts are removed applying a special screening technique. Thanks to this gentle method, the excellent qualities can be ensured.

PH-NEUTRAL
In terms of soil pH, Mediterranean pine mulch has a milder and more neutral effect than home-grown bark mulch. In addition, the pine bark binds significantly less nitrogen. This remains available in the soil for the plants.

LESS MOSS
The bark is permeable to air in every grain size and mosses less than other mulches. Thus the attractive appearance of the material is maintained for a long time.

Advantages

EYE-STRIKING APPEARANCE
Mediterranean pine bark is characterised by its red-brown colouring and a pleasant Mediterranean scent. These properties make the mulch a very special material that is also used indoors, e.g. for decorating trade fair stands or in the conservatory.

LONG DURABILITY
Mediterranean pine bark rots much more slowly than spruce bark, for example, and it needs to be mulched less often.

A PLUS FOR SOIL AND PLANTS
Mediterranean pine bark is an ideal long-term fertiliser and at the same time suppresses weed growth. The mulch keeps the soil evenly tempered and moist. In winter, the bark then forms optimal frost protection for the plant roots.

Grain size

FINE
The fine grain size of 4-8 mm and 8-15 mm is optimal for plants placed in flower boxes, tubs or plant pots.

MEDIUM
Medium grain sizes (15-25 mm; 25-45 mm) work best on small beds and borders, in rockeries and any other areas where only a small section of the plot is to be covered with the material.

COARSE
The coarse grain size (45-70 mm) is particularly effective on wide areas. As a path surface, under trees, at ponds as well as between shrubs, this variant is a real eye-catcher.
